CEBIT: Amstrad unleashes three strike launch - Cebit Computer Faire - Amstrad UK - product announcement

****CEBIT: Amstrad Unleashes Three Strike Launch 03/13/91 HANNOVER, WESTERN GERMANY, 1991 MAR 13 (NB) -- Amstrad has unveiled three new product ranges at the Cebit Computer Faire in Western Germany: a notebook and laptop PC, as well as a small footprint high power desktop PC.

Designated the ANB 386SX, the ACL 386SX and the PC 4386SX, respectively, all the new machines are based around a 20MHz 80386SX microprocessor, and are being made available throughout Europe.

Unveiling the new machines, Malcolm Miller, Amstrad group sales and marketing director, said: "Hannover has now become our principal launchpad for new business products and I believe that the three new Amstrad computers, two of which -- the notebook and the PC 4386SX high-power small footprint model -- are our first time entries to these sectors, will, through their design, build quality, specification and pricing, carve out a substantial market share for the brand."

Miller went on to say that the PC 4386SX and the ANB 386SX will be available via Amstrad's European distribution centre in Rotterdam in the Netherlands from the early summer onwards, with the ACL 386SX colour laptop following on in the fourth quarter of 1991.

The ANB 386SX notebook prices in at UKP 1,999 and measures 28 x 21.6 x 52 cm. The unit, which weighs 3.2 kilos, includes a backlit VGA LCD screen and comes with 1MB of RAM -- expandable to 5MB internally -- and a 40MB hard disk.

The PC 4386SX small footprint desktop measures 25 x 26.4 x 7 cm and comes with 4MB of RAM -- expandable to 16MB onboard -- with a fast access 80MB hard disk. The unit is available with a choice of two 10-inch monitors -- flat screen VGA mono or ultra-high resolution colour with a 0.26 dot pitch Sony `Trinitron' CRT. Prices in the UK will be UKP 1,499 for the mono and UKP 1,699 for the colour version.

The colour display ACL 386SX will sell for UKP 3,999 and features a VGA colour LCD screen that is fully backlit using TFT (thin film transistor) technology. The machine comes with a 60MB hard disk and a rechargeable battery system.
