Amstrad PC price cut in UK - Crown Computer Products slashes pricing on Amstrad PC 2386 computer

AMSTRAD PC PRICE CUT IN UK 04/19/91 BURSCOUGH, LANCS, ENGLAND, 1991 APR 19 (NB) -- Crown Computers Lhas slashed its pricing on the Amstrad PC 2386 machine, a 20MHz 80386-based system that has been on the market for two years. According to the discounter, the machine's pricing effectively offers an 80386-based system at a 80286 price.

As supplied by Crown, the PC 2386 comes with 4MB of RAM (expandable to 16MB onboard), 64K RAM cache memory, plus 65MB hard disk and a 3.5-inch floppy disk. Also bundled with the machine is Windows 386, a mouse and a full 12 months on-site warranty. The bundle costs UKP 899.

Provided users buy the unit with the PC 2386, Crown is offering a Dataproducts LZR 659 six page-per-minute laser printer at UKP 499. According to Crown, this is the same laser printer that is badged by Amstrad throughout Europe.

Commenting on the bundling deal and the low pricing, Crown's managing director, Malcolm Jamieson, said: "In the present economic climate, our clients are positioned to take advantage of our buying power. The Amstrad 386 and Dataproducts laser printer package, places a price advantage at the feet of our customers."
