Company History

Abbex Electronics was founded in 1982 by Mark Nunan and Martin Ford whilst at Middlesex Polytechnic as a means of making a few quid - it was a lecturer who suggested they write some business software; games turned out to be more fun.

The business was deluged as they produced Cosmos in time for Zmas 1982 which was the first all machine code game; unfortunately the decision was taken to write the game for the 16k model as that was thought likely to outsell the 48k - a huge mistake which led to Timegate from Quicksilver outselling Cosmos massively, despite not being as a good a game!!

Abbex quickly built a reputation for originality as games such as ETX (first 360 degree wrap around graphics) All or Nothing (3D graphics)and the amazingly complex Krakatoa led the company to move from the directors bedroom to posh offices in Bedford; with employees and proper accounting for all the cash that came through the door.

The killer blow came when the company chose to write six games for the launch of the Laser Computer from V Tech instead for an unheard of start up called Amstrad - the Laser never got launched and the only games in existence are owned by the director, which he never actually played.

The company was sold up and the directors took two years out to recover from the good times.
