"The game kicks some serious BOOTAY!"

You're stuck on whether to get Majors Pro Baseball or World Series Baseball for Game Gear... Well, this is your choice, right here. The original baseball game for the Game Gear is the best on the system. And if you can find a copy of it at FuncoLand ($.99), then buy it!

All World Series Baseball is (for GG) is a ''try-to-be-clone'' of this game. Sega tried to change the game enough to justify a release, but they sucked all of the fun out of it.

Okay, I've said ''buy this one'' enough...

Gameplay 8/10

This is standard 8-bit baseball fair. No pitch SELECTION, but you have 3 speeds of pitch and can control the movement after it's released, etc. Fielding and batting are both OK, but not the greatest. This was an early 1990s game, though.

Graphics 9/10

Players show up sharp and clear. You can see the ball on its way to the plate... What else more could you want?

Sound 5/10

''STRRRRRRRRRIKE!'' The sound department isn't too great, but then again the Game Gear isn't exactly the greatest in the department. The sound is bearable, but it sounds like someone from Japan is uttering the umpire's calls. Sounds range from a really long-winded ''Saaaaaaaafe!'' to an ''out...'' that last about .1 seconds. That's better than high and low-pitched ''beeps,'' I guess.

Replayability 9/10

[Shakes Head] This game would have benefitted from stat-tracking for the season-mode, but at least it HAS a season mode! If you're like me, you'll pick this game up and complete a 28 game season every 6 months or so. That's what long trips are for, is the Game Gear!

SUMMARY

This is the baseball game to own for the Game Gear, but it really makes me long for a portable copy of Baseball Stars, and not the one on Neo Geo Pocket Color, either. I'm talking about a STRAIGHT port of the original. If they released a ''Classic Version,'' I'd buy that faster than a Randy Johnson fastball humming at John Kruk.
