(Anonymous) (Game Gear review) 27th Mar 2012 06:28"Help Aladdin win the girl and defeat Jafar, just like in the movie"
Everybody has seen Disney's Aladdin. It was one of the most popular animated movies of all time. Because of its popularity, especially with kids, it's only natural that a game would be released to the public on a variety of systems.
The Game Gear version of this game has surprisingly varied game play as most of the different levels are a totally new experience. For example, in the first level, it's a chase level. You have to run from the guard and jump over barrels and stuff. There are also side scrolling levels where you need to find keys and throw rocks at guards and stuff. There are flying carpet levels where you have to avoid obstacles in the air (the "romantic" night time carpet ride is hillarious where all the friendly storks and ponies from the movie decide to attack our hero). The last level is played is played with a sword as you have to defeat Jafar once and for all! The game controls a bit like Prince of Persia, so you'll probably have the get used to jumping a little bit before you're proficient at it.
The graphics of this game are excellant. The game animation is very smooth and between levels there are cinema scenes that unfold the movie's plot, and the game follows the movie's plot pretty well. The sound is also good for the Game Gear, and the best track is "A Whole New World" which sounds surprisingly like the real thing.
The only problem with Aladdin is with its challenge (or rather, its lack of challenge). You'll probably beat this game your first time through, as it's very short and very easy. The first time through the game you'll enjoy it, but after that it gets boring. Not worth a buy due to its non-existant replay value, but maybe you have a friend who'll loan it to you?
