"Control Donald Duck and help him uncover all the ancient artifacts!"

Donald Duck, and the whole Disney franchise, means big bucks, so it should come to no surprise that it means good games, right? Well not exactly. This game proves once again that the franchise doesn't make the game.

Controlling Donald Duck is often pretty difficult. He's very slow, and he can't jump very high, and it seems that he just wasn't cut out to be a hero. His only methods of attack are jumping on enemies, or kicking blocks at them (and the chili pepper of course). He controls sluggishly, which can be fatal in some of the later levels, especially when you're trying to make a difficult jump. Donald has to break a curse on Uncle Scrooge by returning some statue to its resting place. To do that, he has to collect more artifacts and only then will the final level rise from the sea. The bosses are "fought" in an interesting fashion, in fact they're not fought at all. You just let the boss chase you, and as long as you avoid the obstacles you're home free. The four levels where you have to collect artifacts can be done in any order, but the rest can't.

The graphics of this game are spectacular, considering that you're looking at a Game Gear screen. The music is also surprisingly tolerable for a Game Gear game. It seems that too much emphasize was placed on graphics, and not enough on game play.

If you have a Game Gear, and you want an average side scroller that will help you pass time on trips, Deep Duck Trouble does the trick. If you're looking for the definative action title, look elsewhere. At the very best, this game is only average.
