"Not the greatest Batman game!"

BATMAN RETURNS for the Sega GameGear needs some serious improvement.

STORY: (5/10)
Typical Batman story, girl is shoved from a tall building, Batman rushes up to save her but, it’s too late. People now think that Batman pushed her over the edge. He must now fight through a series of levels stopping the Penguin and Cat Woman from taking over Gotham City. Also, he must find out who REALLY pushed the girl.

GRAPHICS: (7/10)
The graphics for Batman Returns is the best graphics the Sega GameGear has to offer. Also, the characters on the screen are very small and sometimes hard to see. Hit detection is really poor and the game is really just a, “Get Through The Level Without Dying,” kind of game.

SOUND: (1/10)
The sound is not very good. When attacking an enemy on screen it’s just a series of weird beeping. Also, some of the enemies are prone to explode, making the explosions just a whole bunch of beeping sounds. Really, the music isn’t present; it is just a small little tune that the GameGear can do. The sound is not a good Quality in Batman Returns.

CONTROLS: (5/10)
The controls are simple, use the Thumb Pad to move Batman around, and buttons 1 and 2 to shoot and jump. That’s all there really is to it. You can’t say anything good or bad about the controls.

GAMEPLAY: (6/10)
The gameplay is simple, run through a level and kill all the enemies. Some of the enemies may be hard to hit while others are not hard at all. The bosses are actually pretty fun to fight. They all have their own ways of attacking and their own attack patterns. The levels aren’t very long but you have a choice at the beginning to either choose Route 1, which is easy, or Route 2, which is much harder. Route 2 may be harder to do but it takes just as long to get through as the first Route. It’s nothing neither hard nor simple.

FINAL RATING: (5/10)
Batman Returns for the Sega GameGear does not turn out to be as good as the other Batman games do but, it also doesn’t turn out to be that bad of a game. Truly, the worst thing in this game is the sound, that’s all. So, should you buy or rent? At the time that I am writing this review, I don’t believe you can do either. The game is about 10 years old. But, if you do see it in a used game store, I suggest that you take it for collecting purposes. But, maybe you should try it out first, just in case!

THANKYOU!
