This mini review may actually serve a good purpose, as this is a game that came and went without much interest. I've managed to play through it over the last 4 days and found it to be quite the enjoyable title. As far as movie-related games goes, this is one of the better ones.
Gameplay: 8/10 - The gameplay in this is highly reminiscent of Prince of Persia in that there is a ton of acrobatic work done in it. Due to the fact that Aeon is quite the hero, it's kinda like Prince of Persia on crack. She jumps quickly and surely, and this platforming type of approach is probably the best aspect of the game. The grappling is a ton of fun and is really spectacular.
As well, there is a relatively deep combat system. Aeon has a good variety of heavy and light attacks (Ninja Gaiden Light), which can be linked into combo's. She has a number of finishing moves and each one has specific benefits to them, like increasing your health, or creating splash damage etc.
Add to that, Aeon has access to 4 types of guns, which are quite powerful. These really help when you are in a bit of trouble going hand to hand.
Along with the combat and platforming, you get to play a number of levels encased in a orb of sorts. This is similar to marble madness or Super Monkeyball, and is actually quite fun to play. Aeon also remotely accesses turrets and has a little roller-ball that can sneak into places that she can't.
All in all, there is really good variety in the gameplay.
Story - 5/10 - Truthfully, I couldn't keep up or understand the story. It wasn't very cohesive and had little to nothing to do with the movie. I kept on skipping these just to get to the action.
Audio - 8/10 - Sound effects are great. Charlize Theron does a good job with her voice work, the BGM is decent and the guns have a particularly enjoyable feel to them.
Graphics - 7/10 - The graphics may be just above average. Aeon animates well, as do her enemies, but there isn't a whole lot of wow factor to the graphics. The graphics are good enough to immerse you, but nothing to write home about.
On the whole, yet again, Majesco (one of my favourite companies - since they seem to be apt to taking risks) puts out a good game. This is a game that has a lot going for it, yet didn't get enough play time or referrals. I personally would not pay full price for it, but it is most certainly worth renting for a weekend.
Note: The final boss was killer hard, so I did resort to adding a cheat code right at the end. Then, I decided to run through some of the game with the cheat codes activated - namely the one-hit kills. It turns out that there is some replayability with this as a speed run with a cheat code on is huge fun due to Aeon's acrobatics.
