Athletic World is a Nintendo Entertainment System Game that required the use of the Power Pad. You cannot play this game without the use of a Power Pad. There were two different difficulties, Beginner & Expert. There were 6 different levels including Rafting, Dark Tunnel, Animal Trail, Hurdles, & Hop a Log.
Graphics 3/10
The graphics weren't so good in this game. The character you controlled pretty much looked like a blob in whit clothes. The background wasn't too detailed, but at least it was bright. All of the graphics were bright and contrasted with each other. The sprites stood out from the background easily, and the background reminded me of Duck Hunt, except with shading.
Music/Sound 5/10
The music fit the environment nicely. The only music that got annoying after a while was the main menu music. It was an average quality music, nothing special.
Control 8/10
You don't use the controller for this game, instead you use the Power Pad. At first, the controls are hard to get used to and confusing. The way to fix this problem is to place the front of your Power Pad facing 90 degrees right of your television screen, and look sideways at your television. In order to duck you have to place your feet on the red circles and your hands on the blue circles in front of you, and to move up or down use one red circle and the blue circle next to it. It's hard to explain, but if you follow what I said, it should be easier in operation.
Gameplay 6/10
The gameplay was good, but I found it to be too difficult, even on training or beginner level. It requires quick reflexes and a lot of energy. This game requires more skills than other Power Pad games such as World Class Track Meet. It isn't straight forward and you have to be time oriented to avoid obstacles. If you are good at exercise and have quick reflexes, the game shouldn't seem impossibly difficult like it did to me.
Exercise Factor 10/10
After trying for about 30 minutes to beat any level at all, I was exhausted. I felt the ''burn.'' If its raining outside or you feel like using the Power Pad, you can burn plenty of calories on this game. Just make sure you don't overwork yourself and pull a muscle. Remember, its only a game.
Overall 8/10
If you have a Power Pad, and you feel like exercising indoors, by all means try this game out. It's very challenging and will put your body to the test.
