OK, I think all of you guys have already seen the movie at least 3 or 4 times, but if you haven' t here' s a brief summary of the plot: in 1938 Adolf Hitler, his sights still set on ancient artifacts, has his henchmen searching the globe for the holy grail. You are Indiana Jones, son of the famous archaeologist Henry Jones, and an archaeologist and adventurer yourself. When your father disappears, on his lifelong quest for the Grail, you pick up where he left off, hoping to reach the sacred cup before the nazis do, and possibly rescue dad in the process...


Graphics

As in any self - respecting Lucasfilm adventure, graphics are in the upper part of the screen, while the lower part contains the "Imuse" point & click interface commands. They' re quite well drawn and colourful, and nice to look at; not as good as in Monkey Island anyway, but surely much better than Loom or Maniac Mansion. A little flaw I' ve noticed is that there aren' t as many objects you can interact with as in the other Lucasfilm adventure games. But anyway, maybe I' m being too picky... good graphics, anyway !


Sound

The famous Indiana Jones theme, alone, makes up for the terrible music of this game. But I must say I' ve heard better tunes on my Colecovision...


Gameplay

The programmers had a choice: they could have made a faithful transposition of the movie, with the risk of making the game too easy to complete for people, like me, who' ve already seen it 4 or 5 times, or making an entirely original game, using the "Indiana Jones" name just to attract buyers. But, thankfully, the game actually manages to follow the original story AND to add something of its own. It' s playable, thoroughly enjoyable and faithful to the movie. Strange but true !


The game is also harder than most of the other Lucasfilm adventures, IMHO; there aren' t many problems or puzzles to solve, but they' re much harder than those in, say, Monkey Island. Indy & TLC also features some arcade scenes, but there aren' t many, and you can always avoid them using your brain instead of brute force.


If I' m not wrong, this game is also the last one to feature the handy "Imuse" point & click control system, later substituted by Monkey Island' s "Scumm", basically an improved version of Imuse. Surely, this game is not as good as Monkey Island, and it surely lacks its sense of humour, but it stands high and proud if compared to titles such as Maniac Mansion and Loom;


Conclusion

A very good adventure, deep and intriguing, with good graphics and challenging puzzles. Enjoyable for everyone, this is still a must if you liked the movie.
