I guess most people who visit this site have seen the movie "Tron"! It was the first movie with actual computer animation in it! In this picture a bunch of people (including Jeff Bridges) got stuck into a computer system. They had to get rid of all the bad software elements. These elements (virusses...) where depicted by other human actors. Why do I tell you this? Well, the game "Disc" reminds me a lot of one of the games that takes place in this film. Where Jeff Bridges character (if I'm not mistaking) tries to push the enemy of a cliff by throwing a disc at him! If you have no clue what I'm talking about, you should definitely give this movie a try!

"Disc" was created by the French "Loriciels". When we talk about France and ST software, we usually talk about quality. These guys know how to create decent games, and at first sight, "Disc" seems like no exception! Let's check it out in more detail...

Graphics

Slick, outworldish presentation of the play field. Nice backdrops! You really feel as if you're on another planet. The animation of the players is also top notch!

Sound

A nice sampled soundtrack which loops at 10 seconds. It sounds very clear! There are also some nice in-game sound effects. The screams when you get hit by your opponent are the cherry on the ice cake :-) Aawwghhh. There is no music present during gameplay!

Gameplay

The premise of the game is simple...Try and take out your opponent using your disc! A bit like a violent version of "Pong", if you may. Do this either by hitting him, or the wall behind him! You start the game by choosing one of 4 game modes. Most of them speak for themselves. You can warm up a bit in the "Training" section. Learn how to control your character and aim the disc (A very hard task in the beginning). Or you may choose a "Challenge". Here you can practice against any of the 16 computer characters!

The real deal of course are the "Tournament" or "Championship" sections, where you have to beat every opponent to become the master! It's your choice. It's also possible to play against a buddy in the two player mode! This is the most fun! I would even go as far as saying that disc is one of the best two player games available on the ST!

The opponents you'll encounter increase gradually in difficulty. It's recommended to practice a bit against them before entering the championship. Cause some of them or really tough to beat! During the match there are lots of bonuses to catch, like extra "disc speed", "power disc" and lots more! It's also possible to make the floor disappear on your opponents site. This is accomplished by hitting his wall as much as possible! If he falls, the match ends and you're the winner. Same happens when you drained out your opponents life points by hitting him. He will implode and you continue to the next level! Of course, this could all happen to you too!

Controls are hard to master, but once you're there, it's awesome fun! Overall, gameplay is very good, but practice is needed. The game runs fluently and at great speed! Fast reaction and different tactics for each opponent are a must to complete it...

Conclusion

Disc really is something else! I had never heard of this game before, but after reading some comments at the LGD I gave it a shot! Well, this is one of the best "futuristic sport" games on the ST. Those French guys did it again! A real recommendation, especially in 2 player mode! This game is simple, yet very addictive!
