"A pirate I was meant to be, trim the sails, roam the sea! When you meet singing pirates, they'll be more than you can stand!"

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge

The Secret of Monkey Island took the world by storm, it wasn't long before people's hearts was at Lucasart's (Lucasfilm then) begging for a sequel. Monkey Island 2 : LeChuck's Revenge was then born, The game was bigger than the first Monkey Island, and is quite possibly the biggest Monkey Island, Puzzle and Island wise. Monkey Island 2 : LeChuck's Revenge was a Graphical Wonder by then, but today, The screenshots are like brilliant art. I love this game for many reasons, One of them being part of the best series of all time, forget George Stobart and his sword which isn't even broken, and Rincewind who can't cast a useful spell, Guybrush Threepwood is back in his second game.

'My Name's Guybrush Threepwood, I'm selling these fine leather jackets!'

Guybrush Threepwood has returned for the starring role of Monkey Island 2, the main character who is (or is hiding) a dorkey character. Guybrush is still boasting on how he has killed the Ghost Pirate LeChuck, everyone he meets are not allowed to forget the story, or else they are forced to hear it again. Many Pirates tell Guybrush that once LeChuck wants you dead, 'YOU'RE DEAD!'. Luckily for Guybrush, he killed LeChuck, and is searching for the Greatest Power of all, Big Whoop, but LeChuck is close to resurrection, and has a powerful friend with him, Largo!

That is one brilliant storyline, It will definitely grip you to the very end! Guybrush Threepwood has grown himself a beard. Guybrush is still as goofy as he ever was, and still has the great quotes like ''I am selling these fine leather jackets!''. Many Character's return to Monkey Island 2 : LeChuck's Revenge, Plus there is many new characters. As you already know, Guybrush and LeChuck return, Governor Elaine Marley, Stan, Herman Toothrot and The Voodoo Lady, four other main characters return, and some unimportant characters like the men of low moral fiber. The new characters are just brilliant, A Selected few return in the newer Monkey Island's, like Wally, who you just can't help been sorry for.

Weird Thought: Can somebody tell me why in each Monkey Island game, about 4 extra islands appear on the Caribbean map?

In The Secret of Monkey Island, Guybrush visited Melee Island and Monkey Island in an epic storyline, In Monkey Island 2, Guybrush goes to Scabb, Booty, Phatt and Dinky Island, Each Island has it's own characters and locations, Puzzles and humor. Monkey Island 2 : LeChucks Revenge has an interesting feature, not used in any other Monkey Island game so far (Well, You can go from Jambalaya to Knuttin' Atoll on Monkey Island 4, and from Blood to Skull on Curse of Monkey Island, but I wouldn't say that would count much) you can go to any three islands at anyone time during the second act. You will have to warp islands many times, like getting an item from Scabb Island to use on something on Booty Island, allowing you to do something on Phatt Islands, That is another reason this game is a smash hit!

Sometimes when playing Monkey Island 2 : LeChuck's Revenge, I wonder why and how come it feels different from the other games, For example, In Monkey Island 1, 3 and 4 you have Insult Sword fighting, In LeChuck's revenge, you don't. However, LeChuck's Revenge does prove as the hardest Monkey Island, and One of the most funniest games made. The Tradition point and click returns (Why did Lucasarts scrap it during Escape from Monkey Island?) and uses the same panel from The Secret of Monkey Island, Like you click open a button at the bottom of the screen, the choices are ; Open and Close, which are for opening and closing doors, drawers etc, Giver, where you can give people items as part as puzzles, Pick Up, so you can pick up items, look at, you can have a look at everything interactive-able, Talk to, You can speak to just about anyone, Use, you can use items with another, and Push and Pull, which basically pull's and pushes items. Like other Monkey island games, it is nearly impossible to die, but you can once or twice, but you have another chance, and it is difficult to die.

The Music is just one of the many things which makes Monkey island so popular, Monkey Island 2 : LeChuck's Revenge helps in this, Everything from the all famous Monkey Island theme tune to Wally's theme tune, From Booty Island music to the ending music, Everything doesn't go a miss. There is no voice acting in Monkey Island 2, but remember, there is about a 5 year difference from Monkey island 2 and The Curse of Monkey Island.

LeChuck's Revenge isn't getting any younger, and it is getting difficult to find. Lucasart's have just recently released a bounty pack, featuring the first three Monkey Island games, and a software called White Label have released Monkey Island 1 and 2, which I got for £4.99, and is worth every penny, but LeChuck's Revenge only has one version on that game, the Hard Version. The one on the bounty pack has the easy version as well, But I recommend buying the Bounty Pack, it runs smoother and has the easy mode (Easy mode is a must for new gamers and magazine reviewers)

So is it any better? In my honest opinion, yes, it is much longer, so much to explore, great puzzles, excellent story and is worth every penny. It is indeed darker than the first game as the game is set around vengance, still it has the Monkey island feel and humour.

Good
- The second installment of the best game series of all time!
- Brilliant characters!
- Four different Islands.
- A Brilliant storyline.
- Two modes.
- Difficult and great storylines.
- More Voodoo then you can shake!
- Well over 30 hours of gameplay.
- Hilarious

Bad

- No Insult Sword-fighting.
- Sometimes LeChuck gets a bit carried away with his evilness!
- That damn string is so hard to find! I kicked myself when I finally found it!
