Arjak (Unknown) 24th Mar 2013 05:44"Maybe The First Survival Horror Game!"
Few games have the ability to scare the pants off someone. Project Firestart is one of them.
From the awesome (for the time) graphics to the horrific atmosphere, PFS is a masterpiece.
Made by the experts of Electronic Arts, this game puts you in the role of a single man with a mission:
Find out what happened.
Story: 10/10
The spacelab Promeithius is not responding. Apparently they were working on some sort of breeding experiment and the creatures escaped. You must go in there, get to the bridge, activate the self destruct and escape. Be careful, and keep your guard up. To reveal more would be a crime.
Graphics: 8/10
For the time, I'm sure they were top of the line. They show exactly what they are trying to tell you and
the pixely look only adds to the grittyness of the game. Violence isn't new to today's games but back then,
it was almost uneard of! There are also cutscenes which help progress the game, some of which can be
downright disturbing.
Sound: 6/10
While the sound is almost non-existant, what lttle there is perfectly sets the mood.
Unfortunatly, the score had to be be dropped because of what little there is, there's not even a gunshot!
Still, there is some great music in there.
Control: 10/10
It's amazing that this game works with only one button, but somehow EA pulled it off.
It's very simple: stick to move, button to shoot(and boy you're gonna. It's a good thing you could just hold it down.)
and make choices. Easy as pie.
Gameplay: 10/10
Playing is great fun. You are given complete roam of the ship, are able to read log entrys to learn more of the story,
and the attention to detail is great.the enemy is very resistant to your weapon, but that only adds to the chalange.
The plot thickens as you explore the ship and find clues to as what happened. Your ammo runs out and you must survive long enough to make to the armory and get another one. A great formula. It really adds to the game.
Replay Value: 8/10
Not only are there several endings and several little fun things that are easy to miss, the game is just lots of fun to play. you may be playing this little gem for years to come.
Overall: 8/10
This game probably would have gotten a 9 or a 10 if it wasn't for the lack of sound. But you can't get everything you want. Still, this game is real treasure.
