This is one of those games that just happened to hit the stage at an incredible time of diversity. A game that, like Zaxxon, managed to create sufficient "stir" with the general public and computing press that is was subsequently ported to 12 platforms! Namely, Atari 8-bit, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, IBM PC, ICM PC Jr, Apple ][, BBC Micro, Amstrad CPC, Enterprise 128, Fujitsu FM-7, NEC PC-88, and MSX. Furthermore, a number of sequels and remakes have been made to try to reproduce the essence of the original.
A classic platform from a golden age of computing - that is certain.

Differences between the versions for Atari and Commodore are minimal. The gameplay is still the same, except that the Commodore game is faster, and the sound is a little different. Music on the Atari is played only during the opening splash screen, but on the C64 in the menu due to having more RAM. Visually, the difference though is mostly down to color and the movement of obstacles in the dungeon.

"The only great Bruce Lee game, and that's fine with me!"
First off, I'd like to try to confirm that yes, this IS the only great Bruce Lee game. Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story got old after 3 minutes, even on 3 player mode... and I'm not even touching that X-Box piece of trash...
I have never played Bruce Lee Lives on NES, or the GBA game, but I have my doubts. I WILL play them someday, because I am exceedingly curious.
Anyhow:
Bruce Lee was one of the first bootleg games my father brought home for C64 back in the day, and we spent hours together figuring the sucker out. I was quite young at the time, and the game was hard, but I kept playing.
Yes, that's a 10, this game deserves it.
The game starts with one of the most amazing songs on the C64, go download it.
You won't regret it. So far, the only tunes to rival it, in my brain at least, are ones from the Goemon series. However, nothing beats the sinister synths and octave jumps of the old C64...
When you dare enter the game, you're soon confronted by a strange black knight and green sumo wrestler on the edge of the screen. You are on the opposing edge. You can run across, hit lanterns on multiple platforms, and attempt to destroy your enemies or dodge them. If you do either, they eventually come back for more. The sumo cries out on arrival, but the black knightish character stays ominous.
Eventually, you run out of lanterns to hit and places to go in the temple areas... then the unexpected happens...
You travel through a hole in the ground and drop into what seems like a different world.
It's a lot like the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game on NES. One second you're beating up foot soldiers, the next second for some crazy reason you're dodging lazers and fire and all sorts of nasty things that kill you instantly!!!
This is why you come back for more...
I never beat Bruce Lee on C64, maybe one day I will. When the day comes I hope my dad is next to me. I remembered how I got frustrated on what to do in the game, and he figured out that you had to go underground. A couple screens into it he'd constantly get himself killed, then I took over. I seriously couldn't have gotten past 7 or 8 of those suckers. Now this game sits in my mind as one of the dozens of ''demons'' I must eventually face...
Look out, Bruce Lee... I'll return soon...
By the way, please read Altered Beast's review of the Apple version of this game, it's excellent.
