Songbird's "Under the Microscope #2" has this to say about the demo cart:

"The story on the cart is that stores selling the Lynx were not running any demos on it, and Atari thought that it should make a game in constant play mode to attract more buyers. So they modified the existing Blue Lightning game to turn it into a non-playable cart that plays itself (i.e., it's always in attract mode).

Now, you might expect this cart to be a little circuit board with a handwritten label, but instead it's a standard, curve-edged cart with a gold label with the Lynx logo, all in red lettering.

You can't play this cart, but don't pass one up if you want to complete your Lynx collection."
